Behind the Questions

A small, independent team that would rather understand a hinge than collect a hundred facts about it.

Why we exist

Atticuriobubblyottr began with a simple irritation: most trivia tells you that something is surprising, and stops. We are interested in why. A fact you can explain stays with you; a fact you merely heard tends to evaporate by lunchtime.

So every article follows the same rhythm. We start with a puzzle you have probably met, invite you to predict what happens, and then open the mechanism step by step. Humour is welcome; exaggeration is not.

Our method

  • Trace names and dates to patents, books, museum records or peer-reviewed work.
  • Explain with the simplest model that is still true, and say when it is simplified.
  • Only describe demonstrations that are low-risk with ordinary household items.
  • Correct mistakes visibly and promptly.
  • Accept no sponsorship, affiliate fees or paid placement.

The people

Maren Holt

Editor. Formerly a gallery explainer at a science centre, where she learned that the best answer usually begins with "let's try it".

Mechanisms and fact-checking. A mechanical engineer who disassembles anything with a screw in it, and reassembles most of it.
